Stuff I Like

  • The way my daughter sometimes smells like chocolate…and other times like graham crackers (not for nothing do we call her the Pie!).

  • The determined, deliberate approach she takes to the task of sitting down: stagger forward a few steps…pivot…plop down on bum with huge smile of satisfaction, right in Mummy’s lap.

  • The unwritten rule in our house that the stressed, overworked spouse has the right to order homemade chocolate chip cookies, to be baked that evening by the less-stressed, not-all-that-overworked spouse.

  • Daniel Cook (and cute little red-headed boys in general). Maybe I’m just na├»ve, but to me his politeness and enthusiasm seem both genuine and refreshingly devoid of that young-Lindsay-Lohan-style flashiness, the practiced cuteness of the "We love you Barney" variety.

  • The times when I catch Bub’s eye and we exchange narrow, sidelong glances, smiles spreading slowly across our faces, until we start laughing for no reason, just because we see each other, looking at each other.

This list of stuff you like is absolutely wonderful. And that plate of cookies looks so good that I feel like Homer Simpson thinking about donuts (mmmmmmmm... donuts).

Daniel Cook is the best. That is one of the few that I'll sit Bumper down in front of when I need to buy some time. That boy is so polite and respectful. He seems genuine so maybe I'm naive also.

Pie must be so huggable and Bub seems adorable. You are one lucky Mom.

Thanks for the birthday wishes over at my blog. Yes, Bumper has a real intense stare most of the time. People come up to me and ask why she is so grumpy looking but I also have the same kind of pissed off look (maybe intense is a better word). But when she smiles she lights up a room (I'm such a cliche).

Now see, I am mean and Daniel Cook kind of bugs me... but, I am totally on board with your "cookie" rule!

Great list.

I love when Cakes and I get laughing together and we don't know why.

I love Daniel Cook, and I love his theme song, too.

Mother Bumper - I remember when Bub was a baby feeling shocked at how casual people were when he smiled. I was like, people, didn't you see that? He smiled!

Kristin - It's okay - the anti-Daniel faction is welcome here! ;) I'm kind of under the impression that most people find him annoying, which is why I put him on the list - cause I do really, really love him.

Mama Tulip - After I hit publish I thought I should have added that the best part is the little dance of joy Bub does when the theme song comes on.

Now you see, I'm with you on little red-headed boys in general, but I do find Daniel Cook a little bit annoying. He is nice and polite and all, but it's just a bit too "isn't he precocious?!" for me.

oh, and mother bumper - she DOES have an amazing smile! Right up there rivalling WonderBaby's, and she is a doll too.

I LOVE the cookie rule. You are one brillant lady.

I have a big soft spot for red headed boys. Even Daniel Cook. And we love to sing the theme song. Now I am singing it in my head. Great. It will be in my head all night now. "this is Daniel Cook on a...."

I just love when my toddler plops into my lap. It gives him such a sense of triumph, yet he has absolute faith that I'll be there when he lands.

I've just started sharing glances with Little Guy and laughing together. It's the best feeling in the world and definitely on my "stuff i like" list as well.

no sight better than that of your child's smile... no sound better than their laugh. i melt.

gonna have to try the cookie rule round here. i might just have to settle for a bowl of stale corn flakes.

Awesome list. I love that your Pie smells like... well, pie... and I love the exchanged smiles... I honestly have no earthly idea who Daniel Cook is, though. Is this a cable thing?

bubandpie said...

This is Daniel Cook is made in Canada, so not a cable thing here, though probably it is in the U.S.

And I'm so not making it up about the Pie. Sometimes I look around wondering, "Does someone have chocolate? (And if so can I have some?)" And then I realize it's the baby.

OK, you said a lot of things here that I'd like to make comment on, but... YOUR SPOUSE MAKES COOKIES?!?

mmmm, I love those little private moments that come along, and the enthusiasm ala Daniel Cook for something really neat....! Anne

I am now making your cookie rule a law in the Chicky Constitution. Mmmmm... cookies. *drool*

I loves me those red-headed boys. I'm almost sorry we don't have that Daniel boy in the US. All we have is Elmo. Ugh.

You Canadians and your homegrown kids' shows that I've never heard of :P

Of course I had to look up that Daniel Cook boy immediately as he looks so much like my son! (Only not as cute as my son, of course).

And now I have to try to see if I can convince my husband that I've had a hard enough day sitting around and blogging that he should make me cookies ;)
