Tell Me Who I Am

I love personality tests. I was the girl who scooped up every issue of Young Miss magazine, just so I could sit around with my friends and do the quizzes that would calculate How Loyal a Friend Are You? or What's Your Flirting Style? (The answers to those two were "Like a Labrador Puppy" and "Not Applicable.") I still remember puzzling over the word "sultry" in a beauty quiz I came across in my mother's copy of Good Housekeeping. In retrospect, all I know for certain is that there was nothing whatsoever about my appearance between ages 10 and 15 that could remotely be described as "sultry."

My love for the personality test was reborn when I discovered the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (especially in its various online knock-offs). The MBTI has many uses - it allowed me to identify my future (now current) husband within minutes of meeting him; it helped me understand exactly why my first marriage was doomed to fail from the get-go; and now it has proved to be an amazingly useful way to target good blogs: I took advantage of a little Q&A over at Friday Playdate to ask about Susan's type, and not only did that confirm my theory that she's an INFJ (like myself), but it also led me to a few great blogs, including It's Not All Mary Poppins, helmed by the lovely INTJ, Mary P.

So when I found an online personality quiz that would tell me which Harry Potter character I'm most like...

Well, suffice it to say, I was going to keep redoing the quiz until I came out as Hermione (though Professor McGonagall wouldn't be so bad). And Ravenclaw! Clearly the superior house in Hogwarts, despite J.K. Rowling's inexplicable refusal to create even one interesting Ravenclaw character (and no, Cho Chang does not qualify!).

Okay, that's my geek-speak rant for now. Any fellow geeks out there wanna join in? What's your type?

I'm Dumbledore:

As Dumbledore, you are talented, intelligent and powerful! You may prefer to be in a leadership position, and always uphold what is right. You set trends with your crazy beard.

Cool! I like being a trendsetter.

I'm bad at these, but I'm an ESFJ. What is the N?

I'm Neville, Ravenclaw:

As Neville, you may be shy and clumsy, but you are loyal, gentle and generous, admired for your easy going nature.

I agree with you, Ravenclaw is the best of the 4 houses, although they never had any interesting characters!

I just took all the tests for fun, and I'm also an INFJ, and I'm also Hermione & Ravenclaw (on the first try). No wonder I like reading your blog! :)

Mama Tulip - The crazy beard looks great on you!

Mega Mom - The "N" is for iNtuition and the "S" is for Sensation - it basically has to do with where you focus your thoughts: on interior analysis (N) or outward observation (S). ESFJs are great - they are the best of any type at getting along with people from all walks of life.

Nancy - Neville - haha! It's a sweet description, though.

Christina - Yeah, I think you're my secret twin.

This is so fun! I hope more of you come and play!

Ah, I am an INFP according to a test I took a couple of years ago, although when I took the test back in highschool, I scored as an INTJ. So guess I am somewhere in the borderland between thinking and feeling, perceiving and judging . . . Either that, or I've simply become less judgemental as I've gotten older ;)

I've always wondered why the real Hermione wound up in Gryffindor when it was CLEAR she belonged in Ravenclaw. Um, plot device, much?

P.S. I'm Dumbledore! I rule the school. Sweet. (House was Ravenclaw).

Dumbledore, Gryffindor (sp?)

But here's my shocking confession -I have never read Harry Potter. So I had to guess at some of the powers. Imperius? Sounded good.

I want a Buffy the Vampire Slayer quiz (do they have those? I want one of those.)

Hmph. Apparently i'm Cornelius Fudge. Not fure how I feel about that. And who would have thought he was from Ravenclaw?

I did the Myers-Briggs along with Misterpie last year for his school stuff, but don't remember how I came out. I do remember we were shocked to find that we were the same, but just with different levels of different subcategories.

Love it! I'm Harry Potter:

"Loyal and brave, as Harry Potter you may be have a hot temper at times, but you have a warm heart and a thirst to help those in need."

I will look for a Buffy quiz.

Jaelithe - I can see you as an INFP - INFPs are very creative.

Kittenpie - I took the quiz a second time, changing any answers I had hesitated over the first time, and when it came out as Cornelius Fudge I hastily navigated away from the page. The less said about that the better.

Metro Mama - I found a few Buffy quizzes - one that said I'm Buffy, another that said I'm Spike, and a third one that suggested that Giles is my dream date.

How psyched am I? I'm Dumbledore and in Gryffindor. I love being in charge!

And I'm an ENFJ.

I had no idea you were a geek, too! I knew there was a reason I like you :)

Although I'm not so sure how I feel about being compared to Professor McGonagal...

As Minerva McGonagall, your strict facade is complimented by a warm heart, and you always do what is for the greater good.

And of course, I am in Griffindor. I always though Hufflepuff got the short shaft, being that loyalty was such a strong sttribute of it. Plus, I love how the Sorting Hat sounds drunk when it says it :) Huphhh'lpuffff!!!

I haven't been able to get the other "personality quiz" to load yet. Their server must be bogged down with cross links from your blog :)

Ah, my Buffy dream date was Spike. Which is TOTALLY fine with me. As long as, you know, it's just a fling . . . ;)

I can never keep track of all those Meyers Briggs initials, so I don't know what I am there. But I am sorely disappointed to report that Potter-wise, I am Colin Creevey!!!? Insulting!

Geek Daddy said...

OK, Meyers Briggs update: INFJ. Are percentages important?

bubandpie said...

Mayberry - My hubby came out as Colin Creevey too! I was so excited I thought about updating the post just to report that hilarious item.

Geek Daddy - The percentages indicate the strength of the preference. I find them most useful for J/P as they relate to marriage: it's easy enough for Js and Ps to get along if they're both mildly expressed preferences, but a strong J and a strong P? Bad, bad territory.

Jaelithe - Spike - mmmmm. He is SO my dream date.

I am Dumbedore like Mama Tulip. Think I need a shave??

And I am an ENFJ ... although sometimes I come out as an ENTJ so I am borderline on that part.

I was ADDICTED to quizzes like this (okay sometimes still am)

There sure are a lot of Dumbledores among us. Hmmm...

I'm Cedric Diggory:
As Cedric, you are good looking, cool and popular. You are a natural born leader, and are talented and resourceful.

Gee if you say so. What a wonderful quiz!

i'm a hermione all the way! hopefully with better hair, though. . .

INTJ, baby! (though I have scored ENTJ. My I isn't *that* strong, I'm leaning to the E)

I am Harry Potter, too... hafta go re-discover what kind of Meyers-Briggsian person I am.
Nice! I am a test/quiz-lover myself.

I only put "average" on sports. And I speaka de goot english.
At least I'm not Cornelius Fudge (heh--sorry, could not resist;-)

Now off to torture myself on the other one....

Rats! I'm Dumbledore too! I wanted to be Mrs Weasley- she's awesome! Thanks for the diversion..

bubandpie said...

Emily - Hubby is an INTJ too. Definitely my favourite type! (What's Freezio's type? I'm always interested to see how INTJs pair up.)

SS - I definitely see you as more of a Teacher than a Fieldmarshal (unless you're cleverly concealing your lust for world domination).

Joy - Oooh, I was hoping somebody would turn up as Victor - my other dream date!

Amy - I love that Mrs. Weasley's your favourite. Domestic goddesses unite!

if not for you, I'd never have discovered this test. I'm with you on the test-results joy. it's like Christmas. whee! I'm 2 points away from perfection! etc.

p.s. I *think* I'm an ENFP? I can't remember. but the point is, taking the test, and reading the meaning of those four letters? was a total rush. :p
