Tidings of Comfort and Joy

I went shopping today and in one of the stores they have nativity scenes from all over the world. They were so amazing! Some were so tiny they were carved inside an actual nutshell, and some were made from corn husk or cut up Coke cans. They ranged from simple to extravagant. It was really neat to see them all together in one place.

I too love nativity scenes but have not bought our "official" family one yet...been married nine years. I have a tiny one my godparents brought me back from Mexico that they girls' love.

One of these years I need to get another one though. Maybe next year.

The store Kyla describes sounds perfect!

I have way, way too many nativity scenes. That one's my favourite, but I also have a tiny ceramic nativity scene (that's currently on top of the microwave because there's nowhere else to put it), a Veggie Tales, a plastic canvas, a set of wooden tree ornaments, and a nativity-scene quilted throw.

very sweet. simple, yet perfect.

A Veggie Tales nativity scene? Where did you get it? My kids would LOVE that.
Our nativity scene was $15 at Home Hardware. It's not quite a thing of evocative and haunting beauty, but it does the job - when we're richer, I'm going to get a beautiful one.

Beck - Like ALL my nativity scenes (except the quilted throw), the Veggie Tales one came from my in-laws (in that case, my SIL - the ones from my MIL are usually home-made). It's a fun one - the Pie keeps pointing at it and saying, "Santa!" and Bub keeps picking up the Baby Jesus and saying, "Carrot."

Oh, my BubTar would be SO jealous of the VeggieTales nativity.

Have you seen the little people one? That's what we are putting up this year.

We have a creche that my husband's grandparents gave us when we were newly married. Through three toddler kids (who enjoyed carrying things off in their tiny hands) and one move, we still have all of the pieces. It's a Christmas miracle!

My in-laws brought back a wooden creche from Haiti, and it sits on our mantle. I love it. It's simple and solemn and lovely.
