Our Hero
Pie: We went for the Terry Fox Walk today!
Hubby: Do you know who Terry Fox is?
Pie: He runned and runned and runned and runned, but then his neck started hurting, and he had to take medicine ... and then he died.
Bub: I think it was from drinking the medicine!
Pie: Or maybe it was because of all that running he did.
Bub: But wait. He was running so that other people wouldn't have to get sick. That's why he's a hero.
Pie: Yeah. He's our hero.

Terry Fox is huge out here in BC, for obvious reasons. Unfortunately, Michael J Fox is also from Vancouver, and consequently ALSO big. Different buildings are named after these men, and sometimes I get them mixed up.
...I think this makes me a bad person.
This also reminds me of when I was a kid, and my school showed us a TV movie about Terry Fox. In the movie, Terry Fox got angry and called something Bull Sh**, and I was like "gasp! TERRY FOX SAID A BAD WORD." It put me right off of him for a long time...
Oy. That made me well up.
Oh. Beautiful.
Innocent and without guile.

That kind of hero worship I could get behind!
It's these moments, captured and shared, that remind me what I love best about blogs and blogging.
Oh, that is so awesome. I didn't get much out of Connor except details of the walking portion of the event--exactly where they went, the rock they couldn't go past etc.
L.
aww to the funny ways our messages end up coming across to the young.
and speaking of young, Terry Fox's face in that photocopy at the bottom of the post just blew me away. i KNEW he was, what, 21ish when he ran? but i was 9ish and so he seemed old. suddenly he looks like a baby, someone's boy.
wow. sniff.
That made me smile, remembering similar conversations about Terry Fox I had with my kids when they were that age. They're now 8 and 11 and we have different but equally interesting conversations.
I saw Terry Fox run through the town where I now live, when I was a wee girl. It made an impression, and I always remember him and his run so vividly when the posters go up every September.
Love this, words of wisdom spoken from the mouths of babes/kids.
Wow!.. beautiful!.. that made me smile... thanx.
It was extremely interesting for me to read the post. Thanx for it. I like such themes and everything that is connected to them. I would like to read more on that blog soon.
